Rudolf Hensel Fire Protection Coatings

HENSOTHERM intumescent coatings and HENSOMASTIK systems for structural steel, interior timber and concrete.

Rudolf Hensel is a German manufacturer of fire protection coatings. We supply its HENSOTHERM and HENSOMASTIK systems in the UK, together with the primers and top coats each system needs.

Each coating works as part of a system: a primer, the fire protection coating and, where needed, a top coat. Check the product page and Technical Data Sheet for the right combination for your substrate and fire rating.

Systems in This Range

  • Structural steel: HENSOTHERM 471 KS (R15 to R180) and HENSOTHERM 461 KS (R15 to R90)
  • Steel primer: HENSOGRUND WB Green
  • Interior timber: HENSOTHERM 1 KS INNEN (clear) and HENSOTHERM 2 KS (white matt or anthracite grey)
  • Timber primer: HOLZGRUND AQ
  • Top coats: HENSOTOP WB for water-based HENSOTHERM coatings, HENSOTOP 84 AF for HENSOTHERM 1 KS INNEN
  • Concrete: HENSOTHERM 820 KS and HENSOMASTIK B 3000, with Beton Carbonsperre primer
  • HENSOMASTIK K 2000 heat-resistant adhesive for fire protection boards

Choosing the Right System

Start with the substrate and the fire rating you need. Steel, timber and concrete each use a different HENSOTHERM or HENSOMASTIK coating, and the amount applied depends on the element and the fire resistance period.

The HENSOTHERM steel coatings are for application by trained personnel. If you are not sure which system fits your project, send us the details and we will help.

Certifications & Performance

HENSOTHERM 471 KS: R15 to R180 for open and hollow steel sections, approved to BS 476 (Certifire CF 5344). HENSOTHERM 461 KS: R15 to R90 for columns and R15 to R60 for beams and hollow sections, approved to BS 476 (Certifire CF 5678).

HENSOTHERM 820 KS: up to R240 for flat concrete ceilings and walls, tested to EN 13381-3:2015. HENSOMASTIK B 3000: up to 120 minutes for concrete members, tested to EN 13381-3:2015.

Frequently Asked Questions

HENSOTHERM 471 KS (R15 to R180 for open and hollow sections) and HENSOTHERM 461 KS (R15 to R90 for columns, R15 to R60 for beams and hollow sections). Both are water-based and approved to BS 476 under Certifire.
HENSOTHERM 1 KS INNEN dries clear so the wood grain stays visible. HENSOTHERM 2 KS gives a white matt finish, or anthracite grey for theatre and stage sets.
HENSOTHERM 820 KS and HENSOMASTIK B 3000, both tested to EN 13381-3:2015. HENSOMASTIK B 3000 is weatherproof for indoor and outdoor use, including car parks. Beton Carbonsperre is the primer for both.
Most HENSOTHERM systems use a primer, and a top coat where the surface faces moisture, cleaning or outdoor exposure. The product page and Technical Data Sheet give the right combination for each coating.
