Are your flame retardants environmentally friendly?
Yes. Flametect C and Flametect Nitro are water-based, contain zero VOCs, no halogens and no formaldehyde. They are classified as non-hazardous.
Do you have quality assurance systems?
Yes. All products are manufactured in an ISO 9001 environment. Performance is verified by independent UKAS and UL laboratories in the UK, USA and Germany.
Will you test materials with your fireproof sprays?
We evaluate materials for treatment suitability free of charge. Send us a sample or description and we will advise on the best product. Final certification tests should be performed by a UKAS facility.
Can I apply fire retardant myself?
Yes. Most customers apply Flametect products themselves using basic equipment. See our application guide for step-by-step instructions.
Wood & Timber
Can building materials like wood, MDF and chipboard meet UK flammability standards?
In many cases, yes. Flametect C-WD+ has been tested on solid absorbent wood panels with a nominal thickness of 12 mm. This is the minimum thickness recommended to achieve the tested level of performance.
9mm MDF has been tested to Euroclass C S2 D0. Absorbent timber-based materials can be treated with Flametect C-WD+ to improve their fire performance. Flametect C-WD+ has been tested to BS 476 Class 0 & Class 1 and EN 13501-1 Euroclass B-s1,d0 when applied correctly to suitable substrates.
Can internal beams and wooden structures be flame retarded?
Yes. Timber beams, exposed roof structures, decorative woodwork and fireplace beams can often be treated with flame retardant products. Flametect C-WD+ is suitable for many interior timber applications, including exposed structural and decorative timber.
Check with building control or your architect for compliance.
Can wooden outbuildings and sheds meet BS 476 standards?
Yes. Timber sheds, cabins and outbuildings can be treated with Flametect C-WD+. Where weather protection or decorative finishes are required, a compatible water-based varnish or paint may be applied over the treatment.
Contact us for details.
Can flame retardant sprays help reduce damage from arson or accidental ignition?
Yes. Flame retardant treatments can significantly reduce flame spread and help prevent rapid fire development on treated surfaces. While no treatment can guarantee that ignition will never occur, they can provide valuable additional time for occupants to react and for firefighting measures to be taken, potentially reducing damage and improving safety.
Can Flametect C-WD+ be used on exterior timber?
Yes. Flametect C-WD+ is suitable for both interior and exterior timber applications.
Textiles & Fabrics
Will fireproof sprays prevent curtains and carpeting from catching fire?
In most cases, yes. Use Flametect C for natural materials or Flametect Nitro for synthetics and blends. For curtains, Flametect Nitro works on most fibre types to achieve BS 5867 Part 2 Type B and other international standards.
Floor coverings have been tested to BS EN 13501-1 Euroclass Bfl S1.
Can hotel textiles be treated to be fire resistant?
Yes. Most materials can be treated. We are the sole supplier of fire retardant treatment to a major international hotel group. Flametect Nitro products are skin-friendly and suitable for guest-contact textiles.
Can stage curtains and props be made flame retardant?
Yes, for most absorbent materials. We supply British theatres and opera companies, including The National Theatre. Flametect Nitro treats both synthetic and natural stage materials.
Can store displays be made flame retardant?
Yes. We supply design departments and retail environments to help meet BS 476 or BS 5867 standards. Contact us for advice on your specific materials.
Can garments be flame retarded?
Yes, with reservations. Flametect Nitro is skin-friendly and the treatment is dry-clean durable to 10 cycles. Retreat garments after any wet laundering or heavy wetting by weather or other means.
Can antique textiles be treated with fireproof sprays?
In many cases, yes. Always test a small, inconspicuous area first. Flametect Nitro will not react with metallic yarns found in antique and heritage textiles.
Are flame retardants gentle enough for nurseries and residential homes?
Yes. Flametect Nitro is highly effective and skin-friendly, making it suitable for soft furnishings in care homes, nurseries and children's bedrooms.
Will zips and fasteners be affected by flame retardant?
Flametect C can corrode metallic components. Where zips, buttons or metallic fasteners are present, use Flametect Nitro.
Can artificial foliage and flowers be flame retarded?
This depends on the materials used. Flametect Nitro can work on absorbent synthetic and natural fibre foliage and decorations. Always test performance independently to ensure the required performance is achieved. We do not certify artificial flowers due to the variety of materials used.
Can fireproof sprays flame proof paper?
Yes. For absorbent paper and card, Flametect C is widely used on paper for art projects, table decorations and event props.
Can textiles in hostels and high-risk accommodation be protected?
Yes. Even low-cost textiles can be made flame retardant to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B standards using Flametect Nitro.
