About This Range
Specialist Intumescent Paints and Coatings
Coatings that swell in a fire to form an insulating char, protecting steel, timber and concrete.
An intumescent coating looks like a normal paint film day to day. When exposed to heat it expands into a thick char layer that slows the transfer of heat to the material underneath.
Our range includes water-based HENSOTHERM coatings from Rudolf Hensel and the CHAR 17 clear system from Iris Coatings, along with the primers and top coats that complete each system.

- HENSOTHERM 471 KS and HENSOTHERM 461 KS for structural steel
- HENSOTHERM 1 KS INNEN, a clear coating for interior timber
- HENSOTHERM 2 KS for interior timber in white matt or anthracite grey
- Iris CHAR 17 clear intumescent varnish and CHAR 17 Finish topcoat
- HENSOTHERM 820 KS and HENSOMASTIK B 3000 for concrete
- Primers, top coats and HENSOMASTIK K 2000 adhesive
Clear or Coloured Finishes
Where the timber grain should stay visible, HENSOTHERM 1 KS INNEN and Iris CHAR 17 both dry clear. HENSOTHERM 2 KS gives a white matt or anthracite grey finish straight from the tin.
Water-based HENSOTHERM coatings can be finished with HENSOTOP WB Topcoat in White, RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, RAL 9002 Grey White or RAL 7035 Light Grey.
Certifications & Performance
HENSOTHERM 471 KS: R15 to R180, BS 476 (Certifire CF 5344). HENSOTHERM 461 KS: R15 to R90, BS 476 (Certifire CF 5678).
HENSOTHERM 820 KS: up to R240 for flat concrete ceilings and walls. HENSOMASTIK B 3000: up to 120 minutes for concrete members. Both tested to EN 13381-3:2015.
HENSOTHERM 1 KS INNEN: B-s1, d0 to DIN EN 13501. Iris CHAR 17: Euroclass B-s1-d0 to EN 13501-1 on wood-based substrates of 10mm or more.
