Water-based fire protection for structural steel up to R180
HENSOTHERM 471 KS is a water-based, single-component intumescent coating for structural steel. It is maintenance-free and approved in accordance with BS 476, Certifire No. CF 5344, with fire resistance from R15 to R180 for open and hollow sections.

- I and H sections (girders, compression members, columns)
- Circular and square hollow sections (compression members, columns)
- Box sections (girders, supports)
- Galvanised steel, with a suitable primer
- Up to R180 without a top coat in dry indoor conditions

Technical data
- Maximum per coat: 1,000 g/m² (approx. 500 µm dry)
- First coat when building up in several coats: max. 700 g/m² (approx. 350 µm dry)
- At least 24 hours per coat at +20°C and 65% relative humidity, overcoat after a positive fingernail test
- Airless spray: 200 to 250 bar, nozzle 0.017 to 0.025 inch, output above 4 l/min, thin with max. 3% water
- Brush or roller: lambskin roller or long-bristled Chinex brush
- Material, substrate and air at least +5°C, relative humidity max. 80%, steel at least 5°C above dew point
- For application by trained personnel

1Prime steel before HENSOTHERM 471 KSBlasted steel (Sa 2.5): HENSOGRUND WB Green, 1966 E+, 1K AK or 2K EP. Manually derusted steel (St 2 / PSt 2): HENSOGRUND 1K AK. Galvanised steel: HENSOGRUND WB Green or HENSOGRUND 2K.

2Check conditions for HENSOTHERM 471 KSMaterial, substrate and air at or above +5°C, relative humidity at or below 80%. Steel at least 5°C above dew point and not above +35°C. Application by trained professionals only.

3Stir HENSOTHERM 471 KSStir thoroughly with a slow agitator before use.

4Apply HENSOTHERM 471 KSAirless spray at 200 to 250 bar, nozzle 0.017 to 0.025 inch, output above 4 l/min, filters removed, thinned with max. 3% water. Or lambskin roller or long-bristled Chinex brush. Up to 1,000 g/m² per coat, first of several coats max. 700 g/m².

5Allow HENSOTHERM 471 KS to dry between coatsAt least 24 hours per coat at +20°C and 65% relative humidity. Overcoat only after a fingernail test and residual moisture below 5%.

6Top coat HENSOTHERM 471 KSWhere required, apply HENSOTOP WB Green, SB or 2K PU no earlier than 24 hours after the last coat, and only after a fingernail test.

A top coat is required where surfaces face environmental exposure or cleaning. It is not needed in dry indoor areas free of condensation. Compatible top coats are HENSOTOP WB Green, HENSOTOP SB and HENSOTOP 2K PU.
