About This Range
Iris Coatings CHAR 17 Intumescent Varnish
A clear, waterborne fire protection system for interior timber that keeps the natural look of the wood.
CHAR 17 is a waterborne intumescent clear coating for the fire protection of wood and other flammable substrates. It activates fast at low temperature, forming a coherent char layer that protects the material underneath.
It dries clear, so the natural appearance of the timber is preserved.
The CHAR 17 System
- CHAR 17 Intumescent Clear Varnish: the base coat that provides the fire performance
- CHAR 17 Finish: a protective topcoat for use over the base coat
Before You Order
CHAR 17 Finish does not achieve a fire rating on its own. It must be used over the CHAR 17 base coat, which is sold separately.
CHAR 17 is for interior use. Check the product page and Technical Data Sheet for coverage and application details before you start.
Certifications & Performance
CHAR 17 achieves Euroclass B-s1-d0 to EN 13501-1 on wood-based substrates of 10mm or more.
