What is this product?
Black-anthracite fire protection coating for interior wood
HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthracite is an intumescent fire protection coating for interior wooden structures, applied like a normal paint by brush, roller or sprayer. It was developed for wood used in theatre, stage and set design, and removes the need for a separate black top coat where black fire-protected wood is required.
Fire behaviour is classified B-s2, d0 according to DIN EN 13501 (SBI test).
Where it is used
- Solid wood, at least 12 mm thick
- Particle board, at least 12 mm thick
- Construction plywood, at least 12 mm thick
- Indoor, dry areas only
- Not for use where mechanical stress is expected

- Application rate: 350 g/m² (approx. 245 µm wet), applied in one layer
- Drying time: approx. 12 to 24 hours per layer, fully dry after approx. 48 hours (at approx. +20°C and 65% relative humidity)
- Apply by brush or roller (short pile lambswool roller recommended), or airless spray (approx. 200 bar, nozzle 0.011 to 0.019 inch)
- Do not thin
- Temperature above +10°C and relative humidity below 80% during application and drying
- Wood moisture content below 15%

1Prepare the surface for HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthraciteThe surface must be free of dust, dirt, grease, wax, mould, oil, glue and whitewash. Remove existing coatings completely.

2Check conditions for HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthraciteTemperature above +10°C and relative humidity below 80%. The dew point must not be reached during application or drying. Wood moisture content below 15%.

3Prepare a sample area for HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthraciteA suitable test area is required before coating any type of wood.

4Prime before HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthraciteHOLZGRUND AQ or HOLZGRUND SB improves adhesion and appearance.

5Apply HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthraciteStir thoroughly and do not thin. Apply 350 g/m² in one layer by brush or roller (short pile lambswool roller recommended), or airless spray at approx. 200 bar with a 0.011 to 0.019 inch nozzle.

6Allow HENSOTHERM 2 KS INNEN black-anthracite to dryApprox. 12 to 24 hours per layer, fully dry after approx. 48 hours at approx. +20°C and 65% relative humidity. The coating is pressure-sensitive for the first few weeks.
