About This Range

Fire Retardant Treatments for Theatres, Stage and Events

Treat stage curtains, scenery, props, costumes and event drapes for theatres, schools, film sets and venues. Clear, water-based and made in the UK.

Stage and event productions use a lot of fabric, card, paper and timber, often under hot lights and close to audiences. Venues may ask for evidence that scenery, drapes and props have been treated, so keep a record of what was treated and when.

Flametect Nitro treats natural, synthetic and blended fabrics and dries clear with no change to the look, feel or drape of costumes and curtains. Flametect C suits natural materials such as cotton, hessian, paper, papier mache and hay or straw scenery, and Flametect CWD+ treats interior and exterior wood.

Where It Is Used

  • Stage, wing and house curtains
  • Flats, scenery and backdrops
  • Props, including paper, card and papier mache
  • Costumes and wardrobe
  • Event drapes, starcloths and backdrops
  • Hay and straw scenery and seating (Flametect C)

Planning Your Treatment

Flametect treatments work by soaking into absorbent fibres, so materials must be clean and fully dry before treatment.

Flametect Nitro lasts up to 10 dry-clean cycles, so re-treat costumes and drapes after cleaning or any wet washing. Every order includes a free Statement of Performance certificate for your treated area, and iron-on fabric labels let you mark treated textiles.

Certifications & Performance

Flametect Nitro is tested to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B, BS 5438, BS 5852 Parts 0 and 1 and BS EN 13773 Class 1, plus international standards including NFPA 701 and California Fire Marshal Title 19. Flametect C is tested to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B.
